Today
I Can
Yo puedo

I canYo puedo

I can audit a track against a written brief by naming the lines it fails, and fixing those lines in my own project.

I know I have got it whenSé que lo logré cuando

  • I named every brief line the track fails, and the bar that proves it.Nombré cada línea que la pista incumple, y el compás que lo prueba.
  • I audited my own project against all six lines, not only the ones I like.
  • I fixed at least one failing line and my partner confirmed it.Arreglé al menos una línea que fallaba y mi pareja lo confirmó.

A verdict without a bar is an opinion.

Warm-Up

The row, 76 BPMLa escala, 76 pulsos por minuto
Made for this class.

You cannot audit a thing you are already changing.

5
I Do
The Brief, As a Map
El encargo, como mapa
Line 5 does not say the drop is loud. It says something keeps playing.
  • Line 5 on the map is the chord, straight through bars 7 and 8.La línea 5 en el mapa es el acorde, entero por los compases 7 y 8.
  • Line 2 is the bass on the third kick of each bar, early.

One of those you could hear. The other you could hear but not place. Both are failures, and both need a bar.

6
I Do
Three Stations
Tres estaciones

The LockEl encaje

Your bass does not land with the kick. Pass: a partner hears your bass and kick as one hit, not two.

The HoldEl sostén

Your drop is silence. Pass: one layer sustains through both bars, and your partner names which.

The EntryLa entrada

A layer enters or returns on the wrong bar. Pass: your partner names the bar each layer enters, and it matches the brief.

You do not pick your station. The line you fail picks it.

7
You Do
Audit Yours, Then Swap
Audita el tuyo, luego cambien
  1. Six lines. Six verdicts. A bar next to every one.Seis líneas. Seis veredictos. Un compás en cada uno.
  2. Write FAIL next to your own line before your partner does.
  3. Fix at least one failing line.Arregla al menos una línea que falle.
  4. Swap seats. Your partner audits yours and initials each verdict.

Checkpoint at 33:00Revisión a las 33:00

  • Six verdicts, each with a barSeis veredictos, cada uno con compás
  • One failing line fixedUna línea arreglada
  • Partner initials on the sheetLas iniciales de tu pareja
I fixed line ____, and the bar that proves it now is ____.
8
Show Me
The Line You Fixed
La línea que arreglaste

Four pairs: the line, the bar, and what you changed. Not the whole track. One line, one bar, one change.

We fixed line ____. The bar is ____. We changed ______.

One of you names today's learning for the room.

Then pack downLuego, a guardar

  1. Audit sheet to the front.La hoja de auditoría al frente.
  2. Chromebook docked and plugged in.Chromebook en el carro y enchufado.
  3. I count them before anybody leaves.Los cuento antes de que nadie salga.

9
Tomorrow
Next: Mixing: Levels
Mañana: mezcla, niveles

Tomorrow: every layer audible, and a mix sheet that says what you set and why.

Your track now does what the brief says. Tomorrow is about whether anyone can hear all of it.Tu pista ya hace lo que dice el encargo.
