I Can
Yo puedo

I canYo puedo

I can prepare to teach my group's groove by writing a four-step teaching plan and testing it on one partner from another group.

I know I have got it whenSé que lo logré cuando

  • Our plan names the count-in, the kick line, the snare line and the check, in that order.
  • I taught one person from another group and they played our two bars from our page.
  • We changed one step of our plan after the test, and we can say why.

Groove B, eight bars at 90Ritmo B, ocho compases a 90

A count-in is the only thing that is both said and played.

I Do
Four Steps
Cuatro pasos
  1. Count in. Four counts, out loud, at your tempo.
  2. The kick line alone, with the counts said out loud.
  1. Add the snare. Both layers, slowly.Agrega el redoblante: las dos capas, despacio.
  2. Play together, then check: what can they actually play?Toquen juntos y revisa: ¿qué puede tocar realmente?
I teach groove B to one volunteer, in front of you.

What I never do: play the whole thing and say 'like that'.

We Do

  4. If you hear a snare, you went too far.Si oyes un redoblante, te pasaste.
My kick lands on ______, and I say the counts ______.Mi bombo cae en ______, y digo las cuentas ______.

One layerUna capa

A learner cannot hear layers you never separated.

  4. Write what they could NOT do, and which step caused it.Escriban lo que NO pudo hacer y qué paso lo causó.
