1. Setting

Escenario

WHERE the video takes place tells you what world the artist is commenting on. Church? Prison? School? Abandoned lot?

2. Color

Bright = hope/innocence. Dark = danger/oppression. Red = violence/passion. Gold = power/aspiration. Directors choose EVERY color.

3. Symbols

Objects that represent bigger ideas. A raised fist = resistance. Empty chairs = loss. Chains = oppression. A child dancing = innocence.

Scene 2 is where your visual CHANGES as the message deepens. Ask yourself:

Does my symbol MEAN something? Or is it just decoration?

Look at your Scene 2. Does the visual BUILD on Scene 1 – or does it just repeat it? If it repeats, change ONE element.

REFINE • SCENE 3 – CLIMAX

Scene 3 = Your Most Powerful Moment

This is your HOOK LINE on screen. The viewer should FEEL it. Ask yourself:

Is my symbol the STRONGEST one in the whole storyboard?
Am I using close-up or slow motion to make this moment HIT?
If someone saw ONLY this scene with no sound – would they understand your message?

DOK 3 – ANALYZE

Read your hook line. Now look at your Scene 3 visual. Do they match? Does the image AMPLIFY the words – or just illustrate them? Amplify > Illustrate.

REFINE • SCENE 4 – CLOSING

Your closing scene stays in the viewer’s mind AFTER the video ends. Ask yourself:

Does my last image leave the viewer thinking? Or does it just… end?
Is there a CALLBACK to Scene 1? (Great directors do this – the ending echoes the beginning)
What EMOTION do I want the viewer to carry out of the video?

Pro tip: The best music video endings DON’T resolve everything. They leave a question hanging. What’s YOUR question?
