Scholars have been building a Hip-Hop beat in Soundtrap this week. Today they are refining their beats (adjusting drums, bass, melody, and volume levels) and completing a self-assessment.
If Soundtrap isn’t loading: try refreshing the page. If Chromebooks won’t turn on: try a different one from the cart. For other issues, email ambagwu2@schools.nyc.gov.
Do NOT skip this slide. Advance to Slide 3 after reading. Scholars will work independently from that point.
Log into Soundtrap → Open your “Beat_[YourName]” project. If you don’t see it, check “Shared with me” or create a new project.
Use the Refinement Checklist (next slide) to review every part of your beat. Check each item and fix anything that needs work.
Use the full work time to improve your beat. Adjust volumes, try different sounds, add variation. Make it the best it can be.
In the last 10 minutes, complete the Self-Assessment / Exit Ticket (Slide 6). Rate your beat and reflect on your work this week.
No new instruction today. Use everything you’ve learned this week — drum programming, layering bass and melody, mixing, effects. This is YOUR time to shine.
Go through each item. If you find something missing, fix it now. The goal is a complete, polished beat with drums + bass + melody all working together.
Headphones ON • Volume reasonable • Stay in Soundtrap
Use the Refinement Checklist (previous slide) as your guide.
Work independently. Raise your hand for technical help only.
Rate your beat on a scale of 1–5 for each category. For each score, write one sentence explaining your rating:
• Drums (rhythm, variety, timing)
• Bass (groove, volume, fits the kick)
• Melody (mood, balance, interest)
• Overall Mix (clarity, balance, effects)
3 pts: All 4 categories rated with thoughtful explanations
2 pts: All 4 rated but vague reasoning
1 pt: Only 1–2 categories addressed
0 pts: No response or off-topic
What is the STRONGEST part of your beat? What would you improve if you had more time? Be specific — name the track, sound, or technique.
2 pts: Specific strength AND improvement with named elements
1 pt: Vague answer (e.g., “it sounds good” without specifics)
0 pts: No response or off-topic
